We will go over the many disasters that can strike in the everyday lives of your sims.

Flooding
Flooding is any puddle on the ground. Floods can happen from sim bladder failure, sloppy sims, broken sinks and dishwashers, tubs, and hot tubs. Puddles can keep growing if the source of the flood hasn't been fixed. The flood evaporates after 2 sim days.

I suggest fixing the broken object first, then mop up the flood.

Drowning
The only way your sim can drown is if they're swimming in a pool without a ladder, and their energy is at 0. (We've all done this, admit it!)

Burglar
They can come at random either when the house is empty or when all sims are asleep. They steal your household objects starting with the most expensive. They can take up to 5 objects per visit. The best way to stop them is get a burglar alarm for every room or, and this may seem weird, put a burglar alarm at each corner of your lot near where sims spawn. If you don’t have a burglar alarm, quickly direct a sim to call the police. Buy and Build modes are both disabled when the Burglar arrives on your lot. If the police catch the fiend, you get $1,000, but your items they may have swiped still get taken away.

Electrocution
If your sim gets electrocuted, they will die. There is no second chance. Sims who have low mechanical skill have a high risk of getting electrocuted. This chance can decrease with a high mechanical skill, but never goes down to 0. It is guaranteed to happen if they are trying to repair an object while standing in a puddle. In that case, it doesn’t matter what their mechanical skill is at.

Fire
Fires are commonly started by
  • Using the stove with less than 3 cooking skill points
  • Using the rocket set indoors
  • Having a sim or object right next to a fireplace
Fire can spread to both sims and objects fast and sims can die from fire while items become a pile of ash.

Once a fire starts on your lot, sims begin to panic and Buy and Build mode are *disabled!* Panicking sims will only stop once the fire is out or you direct them to stop.

Make sure you buy that fire alarm for your kitchen asap! One of the first things you should do when first starting out is have all your adult sims learn at least 3 cooking skill points.

If your sim has 0 cooking skill points, there's a 15% chance they'll start a fire. 1 cooking skill point is a 5% chance. 2 cooking skill points is a 1% chance. 3 is 0%

When it comes to fire places, place objects at least 1 tile away from the fireplace. Leave a one tile gap around the fire place.
